“It’s not working!” is a phrase I hear often from clients and participants of my courses who take flower essences – especially when they are new to taking essences. I understand this totally as many a time a flower/tree or nature being speaks to our hearts so deeply, we just KNOW they are going to help us. HOW they help us though is the part I am wishing to explore with you today.
If you have found yourself feeling disappointed as the essence(s) you chose, /or maybe chose with a practitioner, feels as if it is not “working, fear not – you are not alone. I have most likely said “It’s not working” myself a lot. It’s normal. We are humans.
What many don’t know though is just WHY this might be and when you understand the WHY and the HOW, you will feel a whole lot better.

1. The nature kingdom works in completely different ways to the human kingdom. We are used to the “quick fix” type of solution (yes even with natural remedies we expect it), but the thing is – this is not how nature works. When you take an essence, you set in motion change in your life and within yourself.
The nature kingdom is a wonderful teacher of change – she changes effortlessly from season to season. In each season she is as beautiful but very different. As humans we are often very uncomfortable with change and we want to feel better but we don’t want to change. Trust me I’ve been there personally many times. Luckily essences and nature have guided me safely through.
2. Change takes time. Flower essences work with our emotions and belief systems – from the inside out. Taking an essence with intent is like planting a seed. Essences are known as a gentle modality as they first of all work from deep inside you and then as your inner beliefs and feelings begin to let go and free themselves, your external situation begins to reflect the inner transformation. Sometimes that might look like feeling “better”, or getting a new job or having more energy AND sometimes it might mean relationships, old securities and inner patterns falling apart – and that – no matter who we are is uncomfortable. It is at this point you might be tempted to say “It’s not working” but if you stop and allow the seed that you planted to grow, you will find that you are always looked after and that what comes next will always be for the betterment of your soul.
3. Finally, and very importantly, just as there are many types of trees and flowers, there are many, many different ranges of essences. Many of us begin with the Bach range – and I LOVE the Bach range, use them frequently for myself and teach about them in our Diploma and Transformational Journey in Flower Essences.
However, learning about other ranges from around the world was a huge game changer for me and nowadays, I use essences from multiple ranges. One way I like to explain this is …. in general flowers in the UK tend to be smallish and subtle in their use, whereas flowers in Australia can be HUGE and much more flamboyant in their message, being “felt” in very different ways to their more subtle UK sisters. There is ALWAYS a resonant match with nature for how you feel – we just need to know how to find it.
We are ALL different – and so whereas I may feel very comfortable with a certain range, you may much prefer the energies of another range. And at different times of my life I may also respond better or feel more comfortable with a certain range.
So if you have used one range most of the time and did not resonate with what happened, it could be that it was not the most aligned range for you. Knowing WHICH range is best for you is not something that is easy in the beginning stages and so working with multiple ranges is what I teach in our Diploma and Transformational Journey in Flower Essences.
A general rule of thumb is to do your best to “meet” the flower/tree/nature being (even through her photo) and allow her colour and shape to speak to your heart.
